What is Reiki?

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. Reiki also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words - rei, universal force, and ki, meaning life energy. Loosely translated, Reiki means universal life-force energy.After being rediscovered by Mikoa Usui in ancient texts, Reiki first was brought to the West by Hawayo Takata in the late 1930's. In the United States, Reiki is a part of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) used in approximately 16% of the nation's hospitals, including Johns Hopkins, The Cleveland Clinic, and Mayo Clinic. Reiki has also been incorporated into Walter Reed, and Fort Bliss Recovery & Resilience Center for miltary members.
