The chakras create the energy system that moves throughout our bodies, and affects our mental, physical, and emotional well-being. When our chakras are out of balance it influences our mind and spirit and can manifest as dis-ease in the body. Thankfully there are ways we can become conscious of and work with our chakras to be more alive with vitality.
The throat chakra, or Vishuddha, is the fifth of the seven primary chakras, is blue in color and located in the center of the throat. It is our expression and communication style.
When we express our deepest truths and create from our soul, we allow ourselves to live in our dharma, experiencing unlimited abundance.
Throat Chakra Meaning:
Communicating feelings, needs, and desires honestly and openly.
Genuine Self-expression
Self-talk (How are you talking to or about yourself)
The Throat Chakra is blocked by lies.
Signs Of an Underactive Throat Chakra:
When the throat chakra is open, expression comes easily and naturally. We are also active listeners, meaning we are listening to those talking to us rather than worrying in our head or preparing ourselves what for what we are going to say next. An under-active chakra can cause shyness and leaves us unable or unwilling to speak our truth. You can also be known for breaking your word, and at the end of the day you may also feel lost in finding your purpose or meaning in this life.
Indications Of an Overactive Throat Chakra:
In contrast, someone with an over-active chakra might talk way too much and likes to dominate the conversation. When someone has an overactive throat chakra they can be verbally domineering. Saying mean things and being judgmental. This can lead to verbal aggression and abuse, and the refusal to listen to anyone else.
Manifestations Of Throat Chakra Imbalances:
The throat chakra feeds our thyroid gland, pharyngeal and brachial plexus, and is connected to the shoulders, neck, pharynx, mouth, jaws, palate, and tongue. Manifestations of dis-ease include sore throat, mouth problems, stiff neck and shoulders, swollen glands, and thyroid dysfunction.
To open and balance the throat chakra, tell someone a secret you've been keeping, set your boundaries and practice saying “no”, keep a journal, sing, scream, or laugh. Use your voice to speak your deepest truth. Eat fruits, and drink juices. If you are having difficulties with any of the above, use the affirmation, “I express my truth.”

Throat Chakra Meditation:
Sit and relax. Let go of the day with your breath.
Inhale, and with each exhale visualize yourself blowing away each of your troubles.
When you are ready, bring your awareness to the center of your throat.
See your sky-blue glowing chakra. Notice it's shape and size. What is the quality of color?
Use your paintbrush to brighten up any dull or darkened spots you may find within the blue light.
Allow thoughts, feelings, and sensations to come and move freely through you without resistance and judgement.
Give yourself several minutes to allow anything that needs to rise to the surface for your attention and mindfulness.
When you feel content, smile and reacquaint yourself to your body and surroundings.
As always, Reiki helps!
